Paul Jackson Watercolour Workshop in Victoria, BC

This fall, Paul Jackson, will be here in our small hamlet of Brentwood Bay (20 minutes from downtown Victoria, BC) to provide a workshop to 18 lucky students.  We are keeping the workshop limited to a small group so that every student gets enough individual attention. 

The workshop will be held Nov 9-12, 2012 at the Saanich Fairgrounds in Central Saanich, BC.   The topic will be Painting Shiny Stuff".  Paul will demonstrate step by step instruction on completing a beautiful light filled watercolour painting. He will divulge his secrets to painting reflections in glass and metals, like silver, chrome, and brass.  Also, discussions will focus on composition and what gives a painting that "wow" factor.

Pouring Light on Coconuts with Watercolour Jan 12-Feb 23 12:30-3pm
We will pour paint on paper to create the luminous watercolours made popular by Jean Grastorf, and Leslie Redhead. In this class we will use masking fluid, and layers of transparent watercolour to create a painting reminiscent of Zanzibar; a   painting that flows and glows. On the Waterfront March 14-Apr18 6:30-9pm
Coastal scenes, small and loose. We will paint 6 scenes in watercolour that include all that the coast can bring: fog,  driftwood, sand and rocks, pounding surf, and tranquil bays. Join us won’t you for 6 weeks of painting and fun.

Trouble Shooting Watercolour March 14-April 18 1-3:30pm
In this class we will have fun painting and deliberately creating common painting problems, so we can apply practical solutions to fix them. Watercolours are often seen as too difficult and unmanageable. Sam will demonstrate how you can easily fix most any problem in watercolour. Materials required.

 Flowers; Bold and beautiful March 15-April 19 12:30-3pm
In this class you will paint flowers in watercolour that quite simply “glow”. Painting from a photograph, Sam will review things to look for and to avoid when choosing a photograph to paint. She will demonstrate each class the many techniques you will use to create your bold and beautiful masterpiece. Materials required

Marketing, marketing, marketing

"Get out there"; "Why aren't you selling more"; "Wawawa" ...we've heard it all.

Thanks to my friend Leslie Redhead she has inspired me to market myself.

Over the last week, I started using the obvious tool to market my artwork...dah...the internet. Why didn't I think of it sooner. Oh, I had my personal Facebook page for close family and friends, and some of my artwork on my photos page, but it wasn't getting my artwork out there for all to see...and it is important to increase your profile.

The internet offers many marketing strategies. Using the following tools I have set up this blog (hello...blogging...da da da), my website, and several platforms where I can showcase my artwork:
Google blogspot
My Art Club
My Art Space
Facebook
and a group page on Facebook

Each of these platforms has its benefits the biggest one being exposure.

As the trend for internet sales ever increases, many people turn to the internet for help. just as you would get a recipe for free, many of the marketing tools are free. The down side is they take a lot of time to maintain...which ultimately means less time to paint.

But for those of us who want to increase our exposure and don't mind putting the time in...there are may "internet" options available...
