The Water Lily monday Night Class

I know I signed this piece but there are a few more details I want to put in for tonight's class. The techniques used for this class were: pouring the background after masking in the focal point, the lily. Once dried the mask was removed and the waterlily painted in. The background was approached using negative painting, and after a few buds and lily pads were found, I went in and did some positive painting within a couple of the found buds and created more definition to lead the eye through the painting. I hope you enjoy this, it was a lot of fun to do. I hope you will join me for the Under the Sea class that builds on this technique a little further.

A new Iris_Honeybee's perspective

I am very excited about my newest Iris, again this Iris was found at Butchart Gardens. I took a very close up shot of the centre of the flower. It immediately reminded me of a class I took in animal behaviour many years ago, and we learned about Apis Melifera the honeybee, and how they see flowers. The yellow veins of the Iris can be easily interpreted as a flight path leading into the well of stamens that hold the pollen that create the sweet nectar we call honey. yumm!

Iris Blues

Another Iris, that I am hoping will help get me into the Iris show in April. All feedback is appreciated, let me know if you like it or if you can see areas that need improving.

Flaming Iris

Last spring and summer my husband and I spent a lot of time at Butchart gardens. This Iris stuck out amidst the sea of iris' and I immediately thought "fire" when I saw it. The petals were so luminous in the light. I had to paint it. I hope it is selected for the Iris show coming up in late April.

Side by Side March 10-27 at Coast Collective

I am pleased to be showing "At the Fair" during an exclusive showing of the exciting and diverse works of the Associate Members of the Coast Collective.
The show is called Side by Side and runs March 10-27 (3 weeks). Childhood memories of sisters sitting side by side on one of the fun kiddie rides at the Sannich fair is an appropriate entry...don't you think?
